It's SUNDAY - What's new with you?
Aloha George and all my OFF family extraordinare!
NO I DID NOT CHANGE MY CLOCK!! We don't do that in Hawaii!! It's one of the bennies of living here. Now the time difference between here and the west coast is only two hours....not three like it has been since spring. I have to mentally adjust my calling times when your mainland times change so that I don't call my family too early, etc. I'm not sure why Hawaii stays the same all year, but I think it's a good thing and seems like the rest of the country should do the same. I think there is other other state that doesn't change their time either.......Arizona? Not sure. That would really be weird to be in the middle of the country with the time a hour different from the rest!!
Now it's time to enjoy the sunrise...which has already happened between loads of laundry. The sun is UP and now the ocean is beginning to come alive with snorkeler's flags, a few surfers, some outrigger canoes gliding past, etc. There is enough of a breeze that I'm sure the wind surfers will be out today, too. It's fun to just sit out on the lanai on Sunday and watch the ocean activities....and when the whales get here....well, then it's nothing short of MAGIC!!
Yesterday I only had three babies to test....and I was thankful because I didn't feel too well, and was home by 8:00 a.m. I had the day to just eat right, rest and get caught upon so many things left undone. I'm still doing that today.
My next-door neighbor was getting ready to fly over to her home on Lanai and I took her two of my power packed bran/fruit/nut/raisin muffins to eat on the way. She is the one who has offered to fly me back from Honolulu after my stomach surgery in Dec. Sweet friend!! Someday I must go with her to Lanai...I have never been over there, and when she describes it, it's like OLD HAWAII.....very quiet and lush with few tourists and much aloha.
Laundry dinger went off...so I'm going to finish that, and then figure out what I'm going to do with the rest of this delicious day. Here's hoping you all are doing something fun, interesting, love filled, or peaceful.
Aloha nui loa,
Maui Karen

Hi George and my OFF family:
Still need to change a few clocks ... can never seem to change my watch and will need to go to the mall and have the guy in the watch kiosk do it for me tomorrow. I had to do that last spring too. It's all screwed up; can't change the date either and that's screwed up because of Leap Year. I can change the alarm and other things but the time just won't change. I think I need an easier watch to change.
I was out of sorts last night. I watched "Amazing Grace" a wonderful movie about the guy who stopped the slave trade in England. I had seen in the theaters and then got it for my birthday on DVD, but haven'****ched it because of baseball. So last night, I finally watched it, plus the extra features. It was so good. You should really watch it. William Wilberforce is really an interesting guy and shows the power of one person to make a big change in the lives of many. He was influenced by John Newton, who wrote "Amazing Grace," after he was caught in a storm on his slaving ship. Anyway, after watching the movie, I didn't feel like sitting up anymore and went to bed to read ... but I was feeling out of sorts and lonely and blue, and started crying for no apparent reason ... sometimes I just do this. I don't know why it came over me at this time. It didn't last long ... but I just had this little crying spell.
I read in bed for awhile ... "Daughter of York," about the sister of Edward IV, King of England during the War of the Roses era. It's very interesting and hard to put down ... one of those books I got from the Press book sale (we're having another one, so I have to look for more Monday ... I get some really good buys there). So I laid to sleep about midnight (actually 11) felt sleepy but then couldn't sleep. Wound up going out into the living room about 1 and watching something on my DVR to get myself really sleepy and then I slept OK. Like I said ... just out of sorts for some unknown reason.
So today, it's football ... Bears vs. Lions ... so far the Bears are up 10-0 (I think .. haven't heard any more scores while I've been in here). Already did two loads of laundry, need to scoop litter boxes, take down Halloween stuff, put up Thanksgiving stuff, I want to work on my ceramics a bit, read, etc. I need to get my legs up. I wanted to make some cookies to bring into work on Election Day for the big crew that's there but I don't have enough butter in the house. So I'll have to get some tomorrow when I'm out.
Well, have a good day ... George, I know my nephew isn't happy with the Texas results (he's an alum ... MBA in accounting ... married to an Aggie alum ... they live in Denver, though, they met in Dallas).

Hi Everyone,
Returned from Madison late Friday eve from negotiations. Did not go well. I have to take management's last/best offer to staff this next wk. We'll have a mtg and vote whether to strike on Nov 14th. Since my surgery is Dec 10th, if we do strike and it is not resolved by the date of my surgery, I will not be able to use my sick time for income while I'm recovering. I asked for 3 wks off and I may be able to manage for 3 wks but during the Holidays will be difficult. One of the proposals by management is to have full control of our insurance...amt of premiums, insurance carrier, deductibles, co-pays....initially they want to raise the cost of our premiums 25% and up. A part time employee will have their premium go from $200/month to $1100/mo.
My uncle passed away while I was gone and the wake is tonite. My aunt called me personnaly to thank me for flowers that I sent to her and she expects me to be at the funeral home this eve. She is actually my ex's aunt but we were always close. My ex's whole family will be there and I really do not want to see all of them but I have to suck it up and go for her sake. I'm exhausted this weekend and I haven't got much accomplished here at home. This is getting way too long so I'm going to shut up.
Have a great weekend Everyone,
Alice
